Foreword
Shri Subhas Chandra

It was in 1995 that TALEEM was conceived by Shri Subhash Chandra, a visionary who has brought India on the world media scene. Since then all efforts were made to start a private university. The same came into existence in 2005 known as Himgiri Nabh Vishwavidyalaya (University in the Sky) located at Dehradun.

Social Science, Health and Media research continue to be the main thrust of our research. A small band of committed professionals have been involved in research of a high quality and have earned a good name in the field of Social Science and Health Communication research.

The last three years have seen a great deal of activity relating to the Himgiri Nabh Vishwavidyalaya (the University in the Sky) Dehradun, which has taken both energy and time of many of colleagues.  I am glad that everything is steadily moving well in the university.

The Foundation has successfully completed two large scale National level Surveys of District Level Household Survey (DLHS-3) in the states of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat and National Family Health Survey (NFHS-3) in the states of Gujarat and Uttarakhand. Both the surveys were supported by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.  Our aim is to become India’s leading institution in health care and communication research.

A project on the reproductive health consequences of domestic violence added a new dimension to our research activities. The project established linkage between reproductive health and the social phenomenon of domestic violence.

Apart from research, the Foundation has also developed training modules and conducted training courses in the field of Rural Development, Health and Empowerment of Women.

The Foundation for the first time carried out a socio-medical study on second hand smoking in collaboration with Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA. The Foundation also had carried out several evaluation, community development and cultural studies.

The collective research efforts of the faculty and staff are presented in this web site.

Best Wishes

Binod C Agrawal
